Chaya Cuttings (Tree Spinach / Mexican Chaya) 3 PCS

Grow your own Chaya, also known as Tree Spinach (Cnidoscolus aconitifolius) — a hardy, fast-growing perennial leafy green native to Mexico and Central America. In the Yucatán region of Mexico, chaya is a traditional staple, used in dishes like “chaya con huevo” (chaya with eggs), tamales, and soups.

Often compared to spinach but more resilient and nutritious, chaya leaves are rich in vitamin A, vitamin C, calcium, iron, and plant-based protein. It thrives in hot, sunny conditions, grows well in poor soil, and produces a continuous supply of edible leaves once established.

Our cuttings come from organically grown mother plants and are ready to root in-ground or in containers.

Benefits:

  • Traditional Mexican superfood

  • Drought-tolerant and low maintenance

  • Ideal for edible gardens and permaculture

  • Long-lasting, nutrient-dense harvests year-round

⚠️ Important Preparation Note:

Chaya leaves must be cooked before eating.
Raw chaya contains natural compounds (cyanogenic glycosides) that can release hydrogen cyanide. Boiling the leaves for 5–15 minutes removes these compounds and makes them safe and highly nutritious. Always discard the cooking water and never consume chaya raw or in smoothies.
